The first American jet fighter to see widespread operational use, the F-80 was just too late for use against the Axis, but would go on to make a name for itself as a fighter-bomber during the Korean War. Although outclassed by later swept-wing jets, a Shooting Star shot down a MiG-15 in what is believed to have been the world’s first ever jet-versus-jet engagement. Read in this volume how the 8th and 49th Fighter Bomber Wings in Korea, F-80Cs completed an amazing 98,515, combat sorties, shot down 37 aircraft (including six MiG-15s), dropped 33,266 tons of bombs and fired off 80,935 air-to-ground rockets. Aside from the fighter-bomber F-80C, photo-reconnaissance RF-80A/Cs and ‘hack’ two-seat T-33s are also featured.

Boeing’s B-29 Superfortress was for many years a cornerstone of American long-range airpower. Best known as for its primary role as a strategic bomber, it also served in reconnaissance, as a tanker, rescue plane, and mothership for experimental aircraft. The Superfort was a critical tool for American and Allied forces during World War II, Korea and beyond. This operational history of the B-29 gives in-depth information on the career of each plane. A list of the names and serial numbers of the aircraft, each plane’s history from delivery date to removal from service, a description of the B-29’s physical characteristics and performance parameters, and a description of the five B-29 variants are provided. Sections of the book give complete mission data for the B-29’s World War II service in the China-Burma-India theater of operations, operations over Japan, aerial mining missions and test atomic bombing runs.

“This 96-page, horizontal-format (10.875″W x 8.375″H) saddlestitched softcover book by Jeff Scherb features newly redrawn PRR standard plans for trackside structures, bridges & culverts, signals, and signs. Working from original drawings and photos, Jeff recreated these historical drawings using CAD software so they could be compiled into a practical and comprehensive format useful to both the PRR historian and modeler. While many books have extensively examined the motive power and rolling stock of the Pennsylvania, little attention has paid to the plethora of standard equipment found along the side of the track. With this book, historians, and modelers interested in prototypically recreating these features, now have a practical reference guide.”
